Help & frequently asked questions.
Answers to common questions about Merge. If you need anything else, our team is one email away.
What is Merge?
Merge is the social mobility and activities app for university students. It brings together two things students do constantly — finding rides and doing group activities — inside one trusted, campus-scoped community. You can discover and join activities, offer or request rides, chat with your group, and meet up with verified classmates.
Who can use Merge?
Merge is a verified, student-only community. We are launching first at UC Irvine, where students sign in with their university email. During early testing some additional addresses are accepted, but the community is designed for verified university students.
How do I sign in?
Merge uses passwordless, magic-link sign-in. Enter your university email, tap the link we send you, and you are in — there is no password to create or remember.
What are activities?
Activities are group hangouts and plans — hikes, watch parties, study sessions, concerts, food runs, and more, across 12 topic categories. Each activity has a minimum and maximum group size. When it reaches its minimum it becomes Active and a members-only group chat unlocks so the group can coordinate.
How do I join an activity?
Open an activity and tap Request to Join. Once enough people have joined to reach the minimum, the activity goes Active and the group chat opens for everyone who joined.
What is the Trending section?
Trending intelligently surfaces the specific things students are rallying around right now — like a particular concert or a matcha run — and groups look-alike posts (even when people spell them differently) into a single tile, so you can find your people fast.
How do rides work?
You can offer a ride with your route, departure time, seats, and an optional price, or ask for a ride and let nearby drivers reach out. You can also keep a ride friends-only. Every driver and rider carries the same trust signals as the rest of the app.
Is Merge a taxi or rideshare company?
No. Merge Campus does not employ drivers or operate vehicles. Merge is a coordination tool that helps students who are already heading the same way share a ride. Any price is a contribution toward shared costs, not a commercial fare. See our Terms of Service for details.
What are trust scores and ratings?
Every member has a trust score shown on their profile, shaped by ratings and reports. After a shared ride or activity, you rate one another — real reputations help keep the whole community accountable. Learn more on our Trust & Safety page.
Who can see my posts?
You choose the audience for each activity or ride: everyone on campus, your friends, or just your close friends. You can connect with people, add close friends, and manage requests from your profile.
How do I report a problem or a person?
You can report a person or interaction directly in the app. For anything urgent, email safety@mergecampus.com with as much detail as you can. We review reports seriously and act to protect the community.
How is my data handled?
We collect only what we need to make campus coordination work and treat student data with care. Read the full details in our Privacy Policy.
